［雑記］ちょい休憩

社会的に共通の行事がある日ってのは、社会人だと得することもあるんですね。

ここ３ヶ月俺の脳みそと生活の９９％を占めてる事件は海外でどう表現されてるのかということにやっと思いが至ったので、NY TIMES、BBC NEWS、ECONOMIST等のニュースサイトからキーワードやキーセンテンスを集めてみた。

一級建築士： first-class certified architect　（≠engineer！）
構造計算データを偽装する：　falsify quake resistance data/stractural data
偽造：　fabrication
鉄筋量の不足：　insufficient steel reinforcement
基準を下回る：　be sub-standard
建築確認を行う：　review/inspect architectral/building plans
見過ごし：　oversight
審査機関（建築主事＋指定機関）：　safty inspetor
建築主事：　public inspector
指定確認検査機関：　private sector inspector/ inspection company/firm / private certifying firm
平成10年改正による確認検査の民間開放：　Under a system established in 1999, architectural firms won the right to choose the companies that inspect their building plans.
高層建築物：　high-rises
地震が起こりやすい：　prone to earthquakes
大規模地震国・日本：　Japan weathers about one-fifth of the world's quakes of magnitude 6 or greater.　（動詞weatherの使い方に注目）
中規模程度の地震で崩壊する／に耐える：　collapse in/ withstand a moderate/middle-sized earthquake
震災以来の耐震化施策：　Japan has been scrambling to ensure its architecture is quake-proof since the earthquake in 1995.
建築における"手抜き"： corner cutting in construction
「居住の安定が最重要」：　The safety of those living in the affected buildings is the government's top priority.
審査側の体制を点検する特別委員会を立ち上げる：　set up a special team to inspect the inspectors.　（inspectorsをinspectするってすごい皮肉…）
責任をなすりつけ合う：　point fingers at each other

なるほど、高卒＋α程度で理解できる言葉でいとも簡単に表現できるのね…。いざ自分で英語で書けと言われるとたぶん書けないな。

これを機に英語勉強始めよう…かな。
